When told that our Society
has no president having authority to govern it, no treasurer who can compel the payment of any dues, no board of directors who can cast an erring member into outer darkness, when indeed no A.A. can give
another a directive and enforce obedience, our friends gasp and exclaim, "This simply can't
be. There must be an angle somewhere."

another addiction even worse stigmatized than alcoholism, you may not want
me among you. Or will you?"

We do not like the thought
that the contents of a book
or the work of another alcoholic has accomplished in a few weeks that for which we struggled for years.

But the ex-problem drinker who has found this solution, who is properly
armed with facts about himself, can generally win the entire confidence of another alcoholic in a few hours.

Each day, somewhere in the world, recovery begins when one alcoholic talks with another alcoholic, sharing experience, strength, and

the true purpose of our lives, produced another bad result.

get his direct comment and counsel on our situation, and there can be no
doubt in our minds what that
